| In September of 2007, the Plainfield Alumni Chapter began their Guide Right Program. The first of the two major programs contributing to this effort is, “I have the ball and I will take the shot,” which is the brainchild of Brother Wade Woodson. Led by Brothers Hollis Williams and Frank Flores, the program provides mentorship, positive role models and career introduction to 8th grade male students to 8th grade male at students at the Maxson Middle School in Plainfield, NJ. Speakers from the chapter discuss the keys to their success while emphasizing education, goal setting and the maintenance of a positive focus. Brothers make presentations twice a month detailing their background, role models and events that helped them chart their course. They also discuss their careers, personal accomplishments and close with advising students on how to achieve their own dreams. Lead by Brother Michael Smith, PAC has also introduced new members (6) to its Junior Kappa League Leadership Program. The Junior Kappa League Leadership Program was formed in December for elementary and junior high school students. Additionally, new members (3) of high school age students joined the recently renovated Kappa League Leadership Development Program, which serves as the second main contributing program to Plainfield Alumni’s Guide Right effort. Through Guide Right, the focus of our Kappa League Program, from its inception, has been to provide scholarships to needy and talented students, to provide positive male reinforcement to young men, and to inform our youth of the many professions and career options available to them. Throughout the 2007-2008 fraternal year, the Plainfield Alumni Chapter and its Kappa League members also sponsored the following activities:
Plainfield Alumni's commitment to Plainfield area youth is well established. Our Guide Right efforts, both individual and collective, continue to serve as a mechanism to "inspire service in the public interest". |
